Laser Photonics Systems Streamline Automotive Factory Technical Cleaning Process for Parts Quality Control

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 30, 2024 Laser Photonics Corporation (LPC), a leading global developer of CleanTech laser systems for laser cleaning and other material applications, highlights a key set of applications for its industrial laser cleaning systems in the automotive manufacturing industry.

“Our CleanTech laser system is the ideal answer for auto manufacturing quality control needs,” commented Wayne Tupuola, CEO of Laser Photonics. “Our laser technology increasingly provides manufacturing and transportation companies with cutting-edge, cost-saving, and eco-friendly technologies that substantially outperform traditional industrial cleaning processes.”

In the automotive manufacturing industry, RTV silicone is used throughout a vehicle as an adhesive and sealant. This is due to its resistance to weathering, ozone, moisture, ultraviolet light and high temperatures. If the silicone is not applied within tight tolerances to each auto part, today’s automated assembly line quality control monitors will kick it out for failing to meet specifications.

Most automotive manufacturers send bulk batches of out-of-spec parts to third-party cleaning specialists, who remove the incorrectly applied elastomer and re-apply it. After conversion to “like new” status, the parts are bulk shipped back to the manufacturer to run through the assembly line successfully. Parts commonly treated in this fashion include bearings (e.g., camshaft, crankshaft, connecting rod), carburetors, connecting rods and whole engines. Until recently, dry ice processes were most often used for such cleaning.

Now, with LPC’s CleanTech laser cleaning technology, traditional methods like dry ice blasting are becoming a thing of the past. With CleanTech products, professionals can now utilize an affordable, easy-to-use, eco-friendly, operator-safe and time-efficient laser solution to clean RTV silicone and other material from automotive components and parts.
